Accessing Anime & Manga Content via the Public Library!
Date(s) - Sunday 7/20/2025 9:00 AM - Sunday 10:00 AMDescription
This panel is a “How To” steps for accessing anime & manga and J-Pop/J-Rock/Kpop music legally via the Public Library systems in this region. You will learn how to use library digital resources such as Hoopla Digital, which has anime streaming content, often older shows that are very out of print and in regular rotation. There is also a library based service called “Freegal” which grants users access to DRM-free music downloads with a 3-to-5 track limit per week per library card, as well as music streaming for a set number of minutes per week per card; we will be focusing on Freegal’s library of J-Pop & J-Rock & Kpop tunes, including many popular Anime Openings/Endings. The library service known as Libby that grants users the ability to legally borrow manga in digital format for a limited duration of time. There is also the library service called KANOPY that grants access to streaming movies and television episodes including anime! Lastly we will cover a core library service called Interlibrary Loan, including recommendations for best practices when requesting manga via Interlibrary Loan and why requesting Volumes 1-10 of any one series at the same time is a bad idea you will regret as a library user and avid manga reader. Most public libraries in our region no longer have residency requirements and will issue library cards to anyone with a valid Texas ID.
