How do I volunteer? You fill out a volunteer form and then pay $15 by Paypal or send in a check/money order/cash with a filled out form.
What are the benefits of being a General Volunteer? You receive the following benefits as a general volunteer:

  • A¬†volunteer badge that gives you access to all places like a regular attendee.
  • Access to our con suite for snacks and meals on days you volunteer.
  • Crash space allocated for those who volunteer for 26+ hours .
  • Once you’ve complete your required volunteer hours, General Volunteers receive a $15 voucher to spend in the convention. Vouchers are issued on Sunday.
Why do I have to pay to volunteer? Delta H Con implemented a new volunteer system which worked great for our 2014 convention and will be used for all future conventions. This new system is to get volunteers who want to put in the long
hours that we need from our volunteers. At our first convention in 2008 we had a TON of signups and a lot of no-shows or early bailouts so this will ensure that everyone who volunteers for Delta H Con has an initiative to work the long hours that we need from our volunteers at Delta H Con. Here’s how this system will work:

  • Pay $15 ahead of time and fill out an application.
  • By September 10th, 2019 (or sooner), we will be e-mailing everyone if they have been accepted. If you fill out an application, your chances are 98% that you will be accepted as we will need at least 250 volunteers over the course of the convention.
  • After you worked 13 hours over a minimum of 2 days, 6 hours minimum a day, you will get a voucher for $15 that can be spent in the dealer’s room or artist alley. This voucher is non-refundable as it must be redeemed at Delta H Con 12. If you are in crash space then you will be required to work a minimum of 6 hours a day as you will be expected to work 20 hours over the course of 3 days.
Is there anyway an exception can be made to not have to pay the $15? No, the $15 fee to volunteer is required and non-negotiable for general volunteers. No exceptions will be made.
Can I just pay the $15 fee at the convention? No, you cannot. We require the $15 ahead of time so that we know how many badges
to print. We also need to know how many rooms to set aside for crash space when we go through all the applications. We cannot take any walk-ups for crash space and all applications that fail to pay the $15 by September 10th, 2019 (Paypal) will not be processed. If you arrive at the convention and attempt to pay the application fee in person then you will be turned away.
I’m not accepted as a volunteer, do I get my money back? Yes, you will get a full refund.
Is filling out the form on the volunteer application the only way I can register to volunteer for Delta H Con? For General Volunteer Registration, this is the only way to volunteer. Read below if you have already setup arrangements with a staff head to help out Delta H Con. Staff Volunteers do get a few extra perks which are listed below.
I volunteered for previous Delta H Con, do I still have to pay? If you want the $15 voucher, then yes, you will need to pay to volunteer. If you have been directly recruited to work under a staff dept. then you will be directed to the STAFF volunteer page which does not require an application fee as you are working for that department.
I already talked with a staff department head and he/she said I can work for their department this year. Do I still have to pay ahead? If you arrange it with the staff department head then you can still volunteer but you will need to arrange it with that particular department. You will still get access to the volunteer room for food.
I can’t pay for a volunteer app by Paypal/Credit Card. Can I pay for it by check/cash/money order? You will need to click on the MAIL-IN volunteer registration page and print it out along with payment then mail it in to our mailing address:
Delta H Con
c/o Volunteer
P.O. Box. 9462
Houston, TX 77261
I’m not sure about preregistering, how will I know I was accepted as a volunteer? We will inform you immediately if you are rejected. If you hear nothing then 98% chance you have been accepted as a volunteer. We absolutely need as many people as possible to help us out. However, if you do not send in payment to volunteer then you will not be accepted. Don’t procrastinate!
If I do pay to volunteer but change my mind and just want to fill out a preregistration, do I get a refund? Yes, we will give you a refund on your volunteer payment so you can put it toward a preregistration. You must contact us before volunteer registration ends. There will be no refunds if you change your mind after volunteer registration ends and volunteer assignments have been given.
I worked my 13 hours in one day, do I get a voucher form that day? No, you must work your volunteer hours over 2 days period. Even if you work 13 hours in one day, you will need to work a few more hours on another day to get a $15 voucher. This is to encourage
people to work for us for the duration of the convention and not just work one day then ‘disappear’ after that. We will be handing out dealer vouchers on Sunday of the convention.
Does working on Thursday, prior to the beginning of the convention, go toward my required 13 hours? It does not count if you are only working towards 13 hours. It will count if you have crash space as you will be required to fulfill 26 hours. You will be required to work at least 4 hours on Thursday.
When I receive my voucher, can I redeem it at multiple dealers? You will be issued one $15 dealer vouchers. The $15 voucher must be spent in full as no change will be given.
Is there a minimum age you must be in order to volunteer for Delta H Con? YES, all volunteers need to be sixteen (16) or older at the time of the convention.
What about volunteer crash space? Volunteer crash space at the hotel will only be given to people who do not live in the immediate Houston/Katy Area (must be at minimum 25 miles from the Convention). We are no longer allocating crash space at the hotel for locals. All rooms are separated by gender. You must work 26 hours over the weekend to qualify for crash space.
Can I volunteer & cosplay at the same time? Cosplaying while volunteering for Delta H Con is allowed as long as the costume does not interfere with your duties in helping Delta H Con and approved by the department head. If it is noticed that your cosplay is interfering with your duties then you may be asked to change out until your shift has been completed. However, this does not apply to the Safety department as you will be required to wear a safety shirt. If you are assigned to the Con Ops/Logistics dept then you will be asked to wear normal clothes.
If I sign up to volunteer, do I have to also preregister? No, you do not have to pay to preregister if you sign up to volunteer and you’re accepted as a volunteer.

We contact all of our volunteers after the deadline then begin contacting volunteers after September 10th, 2019 with their position assignments. If you have any concerns then e-mail
Does Delta H Con cover any transportation costs, expenses or parking? No, we do not. You are on your own to get to Delta H Con and there is no parking charges.
I have completed my hours by Saturday evening, is my volunteer badge still valid? Your volunteer badge is valid for all three days of the convention.
The volunteer deadline already passed, are you taking any additional volunteers? After September 10th, 2019 (if paid by Paypal) we are not taking any additional online volunteers. You will need to sign up onsite if you wish to volunteer.
Can Volunteers, Panelists, or GM’s enter tournaments? Volunteers, Panelists, and GM’s are allowed to enter tournaments and competitions as long as
1) They are not directly involved in the setup and/or running of that event.
2) They are not scheduled to work during the event.
3) They pay any/all associated Event entry costs.
I still don’t quite get it as to why I have to pay to volunteer? One common problem that we had at our first Delta H Con and has happened at other similar fan conventions who allow people to just sign-up for free is there is a very large amount of no-shows. No-Shows hurt the convention as other volunteers and staffers then have to cover for shifts which were already assigned. To counter this issue, some conventions ask you to pay for a full badge ahead of time then when you do show up which you have to work all of your required 13-20 hours to receive a refund with very little other incentives included. We don’t feel that is quite fair to put the burden on the volunteer to pay up ahead of time. All you need to do is put up $15 which we consider a ‘good-faith’ payment and after you’ve put in your 13-20 hours of work you get back a $15 dealer voucher. We found this to work well as our volunteers tend to work for the convention instead of seeing it as a way to get a free badge without making a consorted effort. Also, if you work 8+ hours a day (if you’re out-of-town) you get crash space at the convention. We don’t cram our volunteer crash spaces like similar conventions which some are notoriously known for putting 10+ people in a room. We also make sure you’re well-fed all weekend long in our volunteer con suite.

We try to make sure our volunteers are in good spirits for the duration of the convention. We believe that volunteers who are fed and rested ensure that our attendees have a good time too.

What is the difference between a STAFF Volunteer and a GENERAL volunteer A STAFF volunteer is a volunteer who was recruited or asked to help out a department. They are generally arranged by the department head/coordinator. They have additional benefits including crash space arrangements, receive a free t-shirt and access to a volunteer after-party. They are expected to work longer hours than general volunteers. GENERAL volunteers sign-up through the Delta H Con website. The big difference is that GENERAL volunteers receive a voucher for their work. STAFF volunteers do not get a voucher. If you would like to work directly with the convention or a department as a STAFF volunteer for future conventions then we suggest staying in touch with a department head or director. We are always looking for a few good people to help make Delta H Con a great convention.
Can I use the voucher in the artist alley? Yes, we will allow volunteers to use the voucher in the dealer room, artist alley or at our merch booth starting on Sunday morning when the vouchers are distributed.
